ADHD & Autism Therapy for Teens and Adults in Mesa, AZ
Therapy for autistic and ADHD teens and adults, by therapists who do not think you need fixing. We help with the anxiety, burnout, and self-criticism that build up from years of trying to pass as neurotypical. In person in Mesa or by video across Arizona.
Serving Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Tempe, Scottsdale, and the greater Phoenix East Valley. Telehealth available in Arizona, Florida, Wisconsin, and Oregon.
Who we see
Adults who got diagnosed at 35 and are now re-reading their whole life. Teenagers who are bright and failing classes and tired of hearing that they are not applying themselves. People who were told as kids that they were too sensitive or too much, and built a personality around hiding it. Autistic adults in burnout who can no longer do the things they used to push through.
Many of our neurodivergent clients come in for something else first: anxiety, depression, a relationship problem, a job that is falling apart. The ADHD or autism turns out to be the context that makes everything else make sense.
We do not provide formal diagnostic testing for ADHD or autism. We can help you think through whether an evaluation makes sense, refer you to someone who does testing, and work with you before, during, and after that process.
How we work
Neurodivergent-affirming means we start from the assumption that your brain works the way it works, and that most of your distress comes from a world built for a different one. Therapy is not about making you more neurotypical. It is about reducing the suffering that comes from masking, shame, sensory overload, executive function demands, and the exhaustion of constant self-monitoring.
In practice, that includes building systems that fit how you actually think rather than generic productivity advice, working on the harsh inner critic that years of correction tend to leave behind, understanding and planning for burnout, and treating the anxiety and depression that so often travel with ADHD and autism. For teens, it often means helping parents understand what they are seeing and adjusting expectations at home and school.
A lot of neurodivergent people carry trauma from being misunderstood, bullied, or punished for things they could not control. Our team's training in complex trauma and EMDR means we can work with that history when you are ready, with a therapist who already understands the neurodivergent part.
Therapists who work with adhd and autism
These therapists currently have a wait. Other members of our team may be able to see you sooner. Not sure who to pick? Tell us what is going on and we will match you.
What to expect
Your intake is a conversation, not a test. Tell us what is hard right now and what you have already tried. We adjust how we work to you: shorter or longer sessions, written summaries after sessions, fidgeting welcome, camera off if that helps on telehealth. If the therapists who focus on this area have a wait, we will tell you the timeline honestly and offer another therapist on our team if you would rather start sooner.
Cost and insurance
We are in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United/Optum, Aetna, Humana, and TriWest VA Community Care Network. Self-pay sessions are $150 for 45 minutes, and the first intake visit is $175. We can verify your benefits before you come in.
Common questions about adhd and autism therapy
Do you diagnose ADHD or autism?
We do not do formal testing. Our therapists can talk through what you are noticing, help you decide whether an evaluation is worth pursuing, and refer you to psychologists who do testing. Many people find therapy useful whether or not they ever get a formal diagnosis.
I was just diagnosed as an adult. Where do I start?
Start with a therapist who understands what a late diagnosis does to a person. It is common to feel relief, grief, and anger at the same time, and to re-read decades of memories in a new light. Therapy gives you a place to do that sorting, and then to work on the practical things, like how you want to tell people and what you want to change.
Can therapy help with ADHD, or do I just need medication?
Medication helps many people with focus and impulsivity. It does not teach the systems, undo the shame, or treat the anxiety and depression that often come with ADHD. Therapy does. Many people do best with both, and we are glad to coordinate with your prescriber.
Do you work with autistic adults, not just kids?
Yes. Most of our neurodivergent clients are teens and adults. Autistic adults, including those diagnosed late or self-identified, are welcome here.
Is this covered by insurance?
Yes, in most cases. Therapy for ADHD, autism, and the anxiety or depression that come with them is covered by the plans we accept: Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, United/Optum, Aetna, Humana, and TriWest. Contact us and we will check your benefits before your first visit.
